Date Night

Tuesday night my MIL visited from Birmingham to watch Lilly for Tyler and I. Our plans were to go serve in our community with our missional community, but because of some unfortunate events this had to be rescheduled. Tyler and I took advantage of this rare opportunity and had a date night. We went to a local Pizzeria, Pane E Vino. They have the best gluten free crust anywhere and their pizza is amazing (even when it doesn't contain cheese). We were able to take a short stroll around downtown and enjoy a nice dinner outside without our precious little one. We had a great time!

To all my mommy friends. A friend of mine shared this and it's a must read. I must admit I had to fight back tears through this post. "And while everyday my selfish desires try to shout at and consume me, I find God’s grace, given me through my children, is so much louder and all consuming."

Lillian 5 months

Our precious little one is 5 months old today! Not a lot of huge developmental milestones reached this month. She must get her hands on everything Mama and Dada hold. Lilly gives lots of smiles and has the most adorable laugh. She is very close to sitting on her own, it won't be long. I am still her favorite :) but Dada is catching up quickly! She sleeps from 7p-7a and takes two naps a day. We will probably start solids in the next week or so, she is very interested in food. Overall Lil is the easiest baby to care for and to love.

5k

Monday I was picking up lunch for my MIL and myself and saw a sign for a Chick-Fil-A 5k in September. They are hosting the event to sponsor Open Hands Overflowing Hearts. This organization was started by a teenager, Kayla Perry, diagnosed in 2012 with neuroblastoma. Our family has been following her story; Kayla is such an inspiration and I can only hope that if I were faced with such circumstances that my faith in God would be as strong as hers. (If you haven't heard her story look it up and donate if you feel led to).

Anyway, when I saw that this was the organization being sponsored I told my MIL that we were going to run in the 5k. My MIL started the couch to 5k three weeks ago, so this must be fate, why train for a 5k and not actually run in one? I decided the next day I would start couch to 5k myself. Today I completed Week 1, day two and feel great. Getting back into running is just what I needed, and maybe I will lose the rest of this baby weight in the process.

The race is September 19th. Right now, I can not imagine running 3.1 miles! I am excited that my first 5K will be for such a wonderful organization and that we are running as a family (my mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, Lilly and possibly a couple more family members).  Keep you updated on my progress. :)

Happy Monday

Because I haven't posted in a while...Life has been busy, as is always. Still working on finding enough hours in the day to get a bible study in, be mom, wife, keep the house clean, laundry washed, and find a little time to do something fun. Oh, and on my list to add is exercise (haven't worked myself up to it yet, but I need to lose the last of this baby weight). Last week was great! Tyler was able to work from home for most of the week so Lilly and I were able to spend some much needed time with him. We finally had a weekend with no plans and we took advantage by staying in. Sunday we had some of our small group friends and their little ones over to watch the USA win the world cup! GO USA!

On a side note while studying 'Calm My Anxious Heart' a few weeks ago we talked about giving thanks to God, not just for your daily blessings (which you should thank God for!). Thanking God for making us the way we are; our personalities, life circumstances (even the bad), our hearts. Thinking back I was pretty sure I had never really thanked God for some of these that have made me the person I am today. So, if you haven't take the chance to thank him, even for the bad things, because those are usually the circumstances that bring us closer to Him. Have a happy week!
